LynLake is a multi-cultural community that gets its name from its geographic location. At the heart of the community is the intersection of Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue. Four Minneapolis neighborhoods converge here: Whittier on the northeast, Lyndale on the southeast, Calhoun Area on the southwest, and Lowry Hill East on the northwest.

Several establishments are frequented by locals and also bring people into the neighborhood for entertainment, including Bryant-Lake Bowl, the Jungle Theater, French Meadow Bakery & Café, Bikram's Yoga College of India, The Egg and I restaurant, Fuji-Ya Restaurant, Intermedia Arts, Galactic Pizza, The Lyndale Tap House, the Blaisdell YMCA , Moto-I Sake Brewery and Izakaya, Herkimer Pub and Brewery and It’s Greek To Me, which has been in the neighborhood for over 25 years. The area is packed with art galleries, theaters, restaurants, bars and several bike shops, since biking is such a big activity in Lyn-Lake. The Lyn-Lake Street Festival is a relatively new, yet growing street festival held every spring that features local musicians. The annual Art Car Parade is held every summer in Lyn-Lake. Residents compete for the most creative theme in costuming their car (or other motorized vehicles).

Newly developed apartment complexes are being built all over Lyn-Lake to reflect the growing population in this community. Several high-density buildings have gone up in this area in recent years, providing substantial property management opportunities. Yet, many single family and multi-family homes remain.
